PART A— (10 × 2 = 20 marks)

1.  Write the formula for power handling capacity of a signal circuit transmission line.
2.  Define the term ‘Galloping’.
3.  Write the two components to the flux linkage of inductance of two conductors.
4.  What are the characteristics of wave propagation on the phase conductance?
5.  Write the formula for geometric mean radius of the bundle conductor.
6.  Write the two assumptions to make the calculations for voltage gradient on the surface of
the sub-conductor.
7.  Draw the audible noise frequency spectra from AC and DC transmission line.
8.  List the two types of corona discharge from transmission line conductors.
9.  Write the effects of electrostatic field on animals in two lines.
10.  Write the usual hazards to workman experiencing shock by electromagnetic inductance.

12.  (a)  List the generalized constant for EHV AC line. Explain how they are obtained for
a typical EHV AC line.

13.  (a)  What is the importance of studying surface voltage gradient for designing a EHV
transmission systems? Explain.
Or
(b)  Develop an expression of distribution of voltage gradient on sub-conductors of
bundle.
14.  (a)  (i)  Explain I2R loss and corona loss in detail.
(ii)  Illustrate with the aid of noise frequency spectra, the generation of audible
noise due to Corona on EHV line.

(b)  (i)  write day-night equivalent noise level in detail.
(ii)  Discuss corona pulse generation and properties with the help of a diagram.
15.  (a)  Illustrate the effect of high electro static field on humans, animals and plants in
detail.

(b)  Write a detailed note on the following:
(i)  Measurement of electrostatic field and
(ii)  Electro magnetic interference.
