Nanomaterials in Civil Engineering

Here's  something extra... Outside the regular syllabus of Civil Engineering. Nanomaterials in Civil
Engineering. This is the powerpoint presentation (in portable document format) of the lecture
that I gave at the C.P.W.D. Training Centre at K.K.Nagar, Chennai for the Two day training programme
on New Building Materials. The presentation gives an overview of nanotechnology and nanomaterials
and gives a brief round up of some of the materials that can be used in Civil Engineering applications.
Hope the students of Civil Engineering will find it useful in their final year projects as there is lot of

Foundation Engineering - Unit II and III Notes

Foundation Engineering - Unit II and III Notes

Foundation Engineering Unit II and Unit III for your reference. This presentation as usual is in portable
document format and is a single presentation covering topics in both chapter II and III of Foundation
Engineering.
My personal opinion is that the syllabus in chapter II and III needs to be rearranged as topics are scattered
here and there in these two chapters without continuity. I always handle these two chapters together and
jump from one to the other so that students can easily understand the topics. Hope you find this useful for
your prep. Please use comments section or mail me for any comments or feedback. typographical
errors if any can be pointed out for correction since this presentation was uploaded with urgency and proof
reading was not possible. Unit II and III -

Foundation Engineering - Unit IV Notes

Hello Again!!!
Here's is my fourth installment in notes for Foundation Engineering series. Wanted to post this atleast a week earlier but somehow couldn't manage to spare the time to sit and type the post and upload the file.
It is the presentation that I had given to my students and is in the usual portable document format. The syllabus actually covers only pile foundations and so does the file name. But the presentation is actually named Deep Foundations as I for one believe that students should also know about the other types of deep foundations, atleast the general types. So the presentation includes a brief discussion on the other types of deep foundations viz. Piers and Caissons. Hope you find this useful in your preparations for your upcoming University examinations. I am still working on the presentation for chapter five, I know its late but I'll strive hard to get it to you before the exams. For now, here.s the download link for chapter four -

Foundation Engineering - Unit V Notes

Hello there!!!

I am extremely sorry for the delay in posting the notes for chapter five of Foundation Engineering. With university examinations just around the corner, I know that the students will be anxious about collecting notes for all subjects. Well, I was hung up with lots of official responsibilities due to which I was unable to post anything here over the past two weeks. All that has been sorted out and the work situation now has somewhat eased up enabling me to post today. This time it is the fifth and final installment...

... of the notes series in the subject CE 2305 Foundation Engineering. chapter five deals with earth pressure and retaining walls. This presentation is also in the usual portable document format. The presentation covers all topics albeit very briefly as I had to squeeze in the preparation of this presentation into my tight schedule. Enough of my work schedule now! Here's your download link.

Ground Improvement Techniques - Grouting

Greetings!!!

Here's the last of the series of notes in Ground Improvement Techniques. I didn't name it as per
convention because it still doesn't completely cover chapter five and I was totally unable to fine
the time to complete the notes.

This presentation only has the details regarding grouting and for the time being you all will have to
make some alternative arrangements for the rest of the topics in chapter five. This presentation deals
with the definition of grouting, its various types, the plant and equipment required for grouting and
the applications of grouting. I sincerely apologise for not completing the presentation in time.
Nothing more to add... To your download link...

Soil Mechanics - Unit I Notes

Hi!!!

I know I am very late in wishing you but better late than never. Moreover, this being my first post in a
really long time and inaugural post this year, thought I should start with new year greetings! Next,
I would like to record my sincere apologies, for not posting anything for more than 50 days.
I was very occupied with official work and hence couldn't post anything because of paucity of time.
But now that the new semester has started, my readers however few in number may want something
new to be posted. This semester, the second years will be facing one of the toughest subjects in
curriculum, however personally speaking, this seems to be a mental perception. Well, I am talking
about none other than Soil Mechanics. This subject deals with soil, its properties, classification,
strength, deformation and behaviour as a whole. Any way, I would not want to bore you with too
much of blah blah from my side. Chapter one deals with the introduction to soil and its properties.
Without any further delay, here is the link to Chapter one in Soil Mechanics!!! Enjoy!
