The use of code books by students for practice during their period of study is often recommended and in certain cases mandatory

for them to understand and get to know the various established procedures and clauses to be followed in different design procedures. In accordance with this principle, I would like to make available for the students the code book used in the subject of Foundation Engineering for determining the bearing capacity of shallow foundations.

Hello!!

Its been almost a week since I posted anything. Was a bit kept occupied with personal work. 

Got the time today and hence back to blogging. Was requested for this by one of my students

 and hence am posting this here. Storage structures is an elective paper for eighth semester, B.E., 

Civil Engineering, dealing with design of water tanks including steel, reinforced and pre-stressed 

concrete water tanks along with bunkers and silos both of steel and concrete.
The design of such structures requires IS 3370, an essential code for this subject. This code will also

 be helpful for students who are doing their design project in the seventh semester in the area of design

 of water tanks and other storage structures, the very purpose for which it was requested by a student. 

There are totally four parts but posting only two based on request. So, here it is.

Hi!!!

Its been a while since I had posted here on this blog. I guess my last post was more than a week back if 

I remember correctly. Well, my research work as well as my teaching schedule at work place was 

keeping me busy all week long along with family commitments as well. Squeezed in some time 

today to sit with my blog. Today I am posting for you the code book for design of reinforced 

concrete IS 456 - code of practice for plain and reinforced concrete.
This code has five sections and eight annexes. Section one is general, whereas section two deals with

 material, workmanship inspection and testing. Section three lays out the general design considerations

 while section four talks about special design requirements for structural members and systems. Section

 five describes the limit state method of design. Of course, it is a fairly common code book available 

easily, if I might say so, in the internet. But still, felt that this blog would be incomplete if a very basic 

but essential code such as this isn't available for student reference. So posting it for the benefit of my 

students and readers. Cheers!!!

 torsion, anchorage and development length deflection calculation and working stress design.

Hello All!!!

Have been quite mum for a while without any posts for nearly a week. Semester ends are really

 tight with a rush up towards completion of portions, entering of marks and other end semester

 official activities. So couldn't spare time for the blog. So here's another addition for the codes and 

manuals collection in the blog. IS 800, General construction in steel - code of practice.
A very essential code for the subject, Design of Steel Structures in semester six of Anna University 

Syllabus. This code will also be useful to all who are currently doing their design projects in steel 

design, of course, this post is too little too late for that but still will be helpful for future batches and

 also for project work in eighth semester. Have nothing more to add except happy blogging and

Hi,

Here's the recent version of the code book for earthquake resistant design. Had earlier posted the older version of the same code. This code book is also an essential code for the subject Basics of Dynamics and Aseismic Design of seventh semester, B.E., Civil Engineering under Anna University. I am also posting EQ21, the explanatory notes for IS 1893:2002 by Dr. Sudhir K Jain of IIT Kanpur for the benefit of my readers. Due to paucity of time, I am unable to put up a detailed post. The same is the reason behind the reduction in frequency of my posts. I'll get back to posting  frequently once I address my more immediate concerns. Hope this post helps you all!!!
